When chickens are transported in lorries should they be squeezed together or given more space?

Ans: Chickens have very delicate wings and legs which can easily break during transport. To minmise injury, pain and suffering to the birds it is important that they are tightly squeezed together as below.

When we provide land for rearing 'free range' chickens on a farm, should they be given as much space as possible?

Ans: Chickens tend to gather together as a protective mechanism against predators, such as foxes. Even if they are offered a wide open field to live in they will move and congragate close to their chicken huts.
